Good morning Buffalo. Here's everything you need to know this Saturday.
BILLS LAND DJ MOORE AND JOSH ALLEN FINALLY HAS A NUMBER ONE
Buffalo made the biggest move of the offseason on Thursday. The Bills agreed to trade their 2026 second round pick to the Chicago Bears in exchange for wide receiver DJ Moore and a fifth round pick. Moore has four 1,000 yard seasons on his resume and immediately becomes the best pass catcher on this roster by a wide margin.
The best part is Moore already has history with new head coach Joe Brady from their time together in Carolina. That 2020 season under Brady was Moore's best ever. He put up 1,193 yards and averaged 18.1 yards per catch. The two already know how to work together and that chemistry could be exactly what this offense needs to take Josh Allen over the top.
Moore is 28 and under contract through 2029 with his 2026 salary fully guaranteed. Buffalo also released Curtis Samuel and safety Taylor Rapp to start making cap room. The trade becomes official Wednesday when the new league year opens.
SABRES RIP OFF FOUR STRAIGHT WINS AND LOAD UP AT THE DEADLINE
If you haven't been paying attention to this team, now is the time to start. The Sabres hammered Pittsburgh 5 to 1 on Thursday night for their fourth straight win. Before that they beat Vegas 3 to 2, Tampa Bay 6 to 2, and Florida 3 to 2. This team is absolutely rolling.
Buffalo sits at 37 and 19 on the season, second in the Atlantic Division behind Tampa Bay. GM Kevyn Adams went shopping at the trade deadline on Friday too. He picked up defensemen Logan Stanley and Luke Schenn from Winnipeg, center Sam Carrick from the Rangers, and forward Tanner Pearson. Adams tried to land Colton Parayko from St. Louis but Parayko wouldn't waive his no trade clause. So Adams pivoted and got some solid depth pieces instead.
Tonight the Sabres host Nashville at 5:30 PM at KeyBank Center. The Predators are sitting outside the playoff picture so Buffalo should keep this streak alive. Get loud in there tonight.
58 YEAR OLD MAN KILLED BY POLICE AFTER KNIFEPOINT HOSTAGE SITUATION
A tense scene on Minnesota Avenue Thursday night ended with a man dead after Buffalo police responded to a mental health crisis that escalated fast. According to Interim Commissioner Craig Macy, officers arrived at 54 Minnesota Ave around 10:50 PM after two 911 calls reported a man in crisis who had taken three people hostage at knifepoint.
Officers deployed a taser multiple times and gave verbal commands. When the threat continued to escalate, one officer fired twice, striking the 58 year old man in the torso. He was taken to ECMC where he died during surgery. Two knives were recovered from the scene. Three officers are now on administrative leave while the Homicide Unit and the State Attorney General's Office investigate.
